The New Desktop Build Project
« on: June 07, 2015, 10:38:46 PM »

With Computex 2015 just ending this is the perfect time to start my write up on my next Desktop build. This topic will be locked until the final build is decided on. Posts to this project will not be in a fixed interval although I hope to be posting regularly with my findings.

My Goal: To build a high end desktop that focuses on creating the best VR experience while enabling excellent overclocking. While performance will be key in this build, having parts that won't be out-dated or prevent future upgrades will be a big focus.

I support this effort, as I will likely be in the market to build a new PC in a similar time frame.

This project may have to be postponed because of some issues. I recently upgraded to Windows 10 in the midst of having some strange lock up issues. After a full wipe and installation of Win10 the issues haven't gone away and I fear that It's related to my motherboard. My motherboard was only supported through Win7 and since then there was Win7sp1, Win8, Win8.1 and now Win 10. I'm unable to find specific drivers and unable to update the bios.

My plans moving forward will be to do an extremely budgeted build of the new Intel Skylake processor + New Motherboard + RAM and leave everything else alone. Hopefully I'll be able to do it cheaply enough to rebuild by mid next year when the high end Skylake or Cannonlake processors come out but that timeline still hasn't been revealed by Intel.

Ouch! Good luck. I am also planning on upgrading my machine this year - October timeframe - and if you're willing to let me hijack the thread I'd be happy to post my plans for upgrade!  8)

So. I'm thinking about upgrading.

Specs so far:

Mobo: Gigabyte B85M-DS3H I think this one can stick. Also swapping a mobo invalidates an OEM OS, right?
CPU: i5-4670 3.4 GHz (4 cores)
GPU: GTX 750Ti

I'm thinking about buying a new GPU, the current one seems to be having problems with ArmA 3 and Star Citizen. I was thinking around the 200-300$ price range. More preciesly: GTX 970 (based on price/performance its way above anything else). However. With black friday and cyber monday incoming, I was also thinking putting the buy on hold and trying to find a deal. Also I need to find a retailer that ships to east europe >.> (or not, there might be other options)

Ideas?

Well, as you have not noticed, no new Indeed Podcast.  My compy dies.   5 good years....  so off to get a new one.

I picked up ASUS H170 Pro Gaming LGA Mothernboard with a Intel Core i7-6700 8M Skylake Quad Core 3.4 Ghz.  16 G of Corsair Vengenance RAM and a GeForce GTX 970 Card.    I tossed it into a Nce New Rosewill THOR Full ATX Tower (this thing is a beast)

Needless to say, I am up and running.  Overall got a good deal on the items from NewEgg.  With all the extras, ran me only about 900.00.  Which Work was happy to cover.  Woot!

Heres to gettign live streaming going and more shows posted.  I now have power.
